Hello All,
My buddy has a 90 CT-90 Trail and said it will idle just fine, but when any kind of electrical load is applied to it, it will just die, he says even if he hits the brake pedal it will die, sound like the alternator to you all?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Rick

FWIW: Well last weekend I took my shop bike SL70 out for a 20 mile joy ride on the local back roads. This bike is totally stock, all original with a new 1st OS OE Honda piston, and I did a lap job on the valves and cleaned the oil filter. About the only things aftermarket on the bike are the back tire (cheng shin 4.0-14) and the chain and the UNI air filter. Stock gearing, carb, exhaust with no insert.
I averaged an honest 45 mph most the ride, 52 MPH top speed on a slight downgrade with tail wind, and 42MPH low speed going up a slight grade with a head wind (going in opposite direction). Im not the most areo dynamic rider, at 6'3" and 220#. I bumped the point gap to .015" and it would not rev and stuttered, so I set it back to .013". The carb runs a bit rich still, but 52 was my top speed. Not too shabby for a stock 72cc with my big butt on it. I don't think I proved a damn thing, but I had fun just the same. :D
FYI
Derek

Hi;
I have owned 11 motorcycles to date, 9 of them Hondas, most of them under 250cc (scooters count). Last Thursday I was given a 1974 Trail 90 complete and original (new original tires and battery) nice little bike been lurking in a friends garage for 6 years. Received as a thank you for helping move a Piano. Came with a manual , the honda how to uncrate (dealer) manual a signed over title and 4 keys which all work the ignition but not the helmet lock? Shes a little dirty but thats easy.
Known issues, Handle bars a slightly bent, dual range gear selector appears not to have a handle, charging system is caput. Owner told me he would charge the battery overnight and then take it riding and it would go about 35 miles then act like it was running out of gas and die and not start again until the battery was charged. To me this spells stator but in my quest for info I've come across claims that the ignition stator and battery/lights stator are not on the same system, and that the best fix is to buy the cdi/12 conversion.
So assuming the stator is shot (1 or both) and this is the problem, will the 12v CDI conversion fix that and where can I buy one? I found Ricky Stator but saw no parts listed for this bike?
Also Muffler is rusty on outlet end and badly repaired , is there and after market avail. and are the trail 90's as finiky to the stock exhaust as all the other hondas?

Oh and having not actually worked on or ridden the bike yet, I had assumed that the right hand lever was a clutch but was told its probably an auto clutch making that the rear brake,,,, did these all have auto clutch's,,, ( bike is in Moms backyard since GF thinks I have enough toys already, so a quick look isnt really an option)

Hello All,
I was lucky enough to acquire a ST-90 last Week with 320 original miles on it, but most of the lighting does not work??? All the connectors appear to be intact, but the rear tail lamp does not work, the front head light works but only on high beam, the neautral indicator does not work, nor the turn signals, (the left rear turn signal lens and bulb are missing) anyhow,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Rick

I have a 1974 honda ct90 and i noticed it was leaking. I had walked in to the garage and seen fluid on the ground near the bike, it was gas. It was coming from the air filter and so i took off the air chamber and out poured a bunch of gasoline. What could this be??:39:

Hello All,
Finally got the little 90 to run (thanks everyone for the charged battery tip),
Now I would like to put in line fuel filters going to the carb lines. Anyone done this before, there is not much room. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Rick

I m rebuilding a DAX ST-70 made in Japan. The frame vin# is ST-70-545041, engine # SJ70E, 112684. Can anyone help me figure out what year bike this is and where I could find replacement stickers written in Japanese. And last but not least a photo of this model DAX!
