Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
I have a 1984 z50r, im new to this site and im wondering if i get some help. Foot gear shifter question : should it be all the way on the shaft???

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
I took my foot shifter of for readjustment and when puting it back on, i am not sure if it supposed to go all the way on to the shaft or if the screw on the shifter lines up with the groove on the shaft coming out of the engine.?? when it lines up with the slot on the shaft it is not all the way on. when it is all the way on the screw wont go through to the laces on the other side,, photo is attached of how it looks when the screw goes through. is this right or wrong.. any help would be great..

Z50R shifting problems

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Sorry if there are related posts already out there, but Search wasn't working.

My Z50 is not shifting properly. It shifts rough, jerky, sometimes doesn't make it into gear at all. I've tried the clutch adjustment mentioned on here with no success. I recently bought the bike and it looks like it's been ragged on pretty good. My question is this, how do I determine if the shifting problems are stemming from the clutch? or the transmission?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Dave

First Ride 2010 - PIC - Chicago

Monday, March 8th, 2010
Well, after bringing it back to life all winter, the weather finally came around and I took my CT70 out.

TODAY:

As I bought it around Thanksgiving:

Replaced the rear fender, replaced the handlebar clamp (handlebars held on by a chain when I bought it), added a headlight, speedo, taillight, rewired it, painted the rims, new seat, fixed rusted out header and painted exhaust, used a torch to straighten the handlebars, rebuilt the carb and did all the typical tuneup stuff... I guess I did more than I realized!

Felt great to finally get it out on the road.

Oil Pump

Sunday, March 7th, 2010
I am working on my second CT70 KO engine and have run into the same problem on both. I have done a complete tear down of the engines and when I put the oil pump gears cover on, the pump will not turn. I fiddled with the first engine long enough that it finally started turning freely, I am not sure what I did to make it work. It seems to be very straight forward as to how it is installed, but obviously I am doing something wrong.

cam chain question

Sunday, March 7th, 2010
I installed the new cam chain kit yesterday I got off ebay, cheap, and now the motor turns hard by hand. The spark plug is out, the chain tension is set properly, I can turn it with the flywheel but it's way harder to turn than before. Is this normal for a new chain to be so tight? will it loosen up when I get the motor up and running? anybody install a new chain and gear set before and had the same concerns?

thanks, scott

Dim Lights, Battery Issue or Wiring??

Sunday, March 7th, 2010
Hey Guys,
So here is my question, when i turn my bike on, the lights and horn dont work which i think is normal. Once i start up the bike, they will work, but i have to rev it up to get the lights to be bright and the horn to be audible. But if i am cruising along in like 2nd gear, and it is not reved up to high the front light is not really bright at all. Is this normal, or do you think my wiring is bad? The battery is new, it is one of those white ones. Thanks for the help!!!

Packing hubs

Saturday, March 6th, 2010
Just so I understand the Honda service manual correctly, it tells me to pack the inner hub completely with grease before re-installing the spacer tubes and bearings. I am about to put in new sealed bearings and re-assemble the wheels. Is this necessary? If so, anybody got suggestions on the right type grease? Just standard bearing grease? As long as I have a captive audience, I would also like to know the preferred lube for speedo/odometer gears while I'm rebuilding an H model speedo.

Thanks as always,
Motorhead

stumbles if throttle advanced slowly..?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010
Hey all, me and my daughter are thoroughly enjoying some ride time on my 70, ct70. I'm still working out some issues....of which it has many. One of the more confusing (for me) issues is that the bikes starts and runs fine. HOWEVER, if i advance the throttle very slowly, it stumbles just before it picks up...to the point if i hold it at the stumble point, it can kill the engine. If i just twist it normal speed...it revs up NO problem.

I'm a little stumped on this. Any ideas?

Also, the bike runs very smooth in 3rd at 20. Above that it gets vibratey. I'm assuming this is normal? It's not like i think it's about to fall apart...just there is a gradual and noticable increase in vibrations as i accelerate past 20.

(some info...new points timed as perfectly as i could with a meter, new condenser)

1970 70h stumble backfire

Friday, March 5th, 2010
before i check any more with this problem i need some experenced ideas .my 70 was running good i thought if it was going to be sitting for a while this winter i would put some stable in the gas after doing this i rode it some,it started running rough ,thought maybe i had used to much stable,so i drained all the fuel and added fresh it still ran the same . i took the carb apart and soaked it good, used wire and cleaned all the passages it has anew needle jet set and all other parts new. with the air screw set at about one and one eight turns out it starts and idles fine with a slow throttle opening i get no stumble or back fire ,but if i open the throttle normally i get backfire and hesitation sobad it tries to close the choke if ican get the rpms up it levels out ive checked for intake leaks and tightened the head bolts something tells me its not the carb but may be timing ,points gap or spark advance :7:
